Wombat Range Empty Wombat Range

Hello,
I am interested in anything on the former (?more extensive) range of
wombats in NSW.
On plains west of Bourke, towards Mount Gunderbooka, years ago I came
across some large (?old) burrows. Nobody in Bourke could tell me what
there are. If found in the eastern highlands one would immediately think
"wombat".
