Gday When placing treatment doors over burrow entrances (for common wombats) Is there a risk of overdosing one wombat? Should cydectin be used at every tunnel or just one? Dont want to do more harm than good!

mange treatment doors Empty Flaps and treating multiple burrows

Ideally try and work out if the burrow you are treating is being used. That way when you fill the container your wombat as they leave the burrow get the dose. Ideally don't hang flaps over the empty burrows.

It is possible if you say hang ten flaps and seven burrows are being used but three are bolt holes, someone leaving burrows 1-7 who has already been dosed might pop into burrows 8-10 and get a second dose in one night. While this isn't preferred, one group accidently overdosed wombats with no side effects using 40mls instead of 4mls so a double dose isn't a major problem but best avoided if possible.

You can initially fill the container with sand to assess whether the burrow is being used.

cheers That's a great idea Amanda. Simple, but I had not thought of it. I can use that around here and it will be very helpful.
Thanks!
